Winshill Green Under 9 MATCH REPORT

Winshill Green Under 9 completed their pre-season today with the annual Winshill Charity Cup.

The club invites another local team each season to bring their teams to Shobnall Fields and all match fees are collected and the club give it all to a charity - this season Burton Hospital.

This year Melbourne United bought two under 9 teams - the Lions and the Tiger - there had never been so many cats on Shobnall field!

The Winshill Green management team - Beddows and Watson - still undefeated in their managerial career were in confident mood - still minus a trio of players due a combination of holidays and international call ups todays team was: Jakub, Maciej, Dejaun, Hassan, Lucas, Archie, Natan, Amaan.

The players were absolutely delighted and overwhelmed as Top100 Manager, Neil Frankland flew in from Koln to observe the team in action. The team (who were told and believed that Mr Frankland had flown from Germany to watch them) thanked Mr Frankland who was respresenting the Top100 managers for the kind donation that you have all made in sponsoring some of their kit for the new season.
Frankland (one of the sponsors) - far left joined Beddows and Watson on the sidelines to watch the games unfold
The team played 3 matches today - and again experimented a little with positions - but slowly but surely the management duo know their starting line-up for the first game of the season next Saturday.

Here is a run down of the results:

Melbourne Lions (3) Winshill Green (1)

BOOM and like that the unbeaten record is gone. Winshill in fairness conceded 2 poor goals. Their 3rd was a good finish though and if our first touch had have been better we would arguably have snatch a deserved draw, with both Hassan and Jakub coming close. Amaan scored a goal late on.

Winshill Green (4) Melbourne Tigers (1)

Winshill took an early lead through a Maciej free kick, before conceding a deflected free kick from the Tigers. Archie then scored his second goal of his Winshill career, before Maciej got his 2nd of the match after a brilliant Natan cross. Lucas then scored his first career goal to make it 4-1.

Winshill Green (3) Winshill Gold (1)

Their final game was against Winshill Gold, the established team from the club in that age group. And Winshill Green won! Lucas scored a great first goal early on after some great work from Natan and Maciej. Winshill Gold then got given a penalty after a Dejaun handball - which the other team put away. 1-1. Winshill then scored a great second goal and a brilliant clearance by Dejaun at the back fell to Lucas who scored his second of the game.

Winshill Gold had some great chances but amazing saves from both Jakub and Lucas (he went in goal late on) and some excellent work at the back from Hassan and Dejaun kept the Gold at bay. Winshill Green then scored a late goal through debutant Amaan.

Great end to pre-season.
